📌 Friday, 6:00 PM – The Akathist of the Annunciation
The Great Canon Service – A Journey of Repentance
“The Great Canon Service, held on Wednesday evening, is one of the most moving services of Great Lent. It marks a moment of deep introspection and repentance, being centered around the Canon of Repentance by Saint Andrew of Crete, a liturgical hymn composed in the 8th century.
This solemn prayer recalls the falls and spiritual restorations of biblical figures, offering the faithful a unique opportunity to reflect on their own lives and return to God in humility. While the Canon is read in segments during the first four days of Great Lent, during this service, it is recited in its entirety, intensifying the emotion and depth of its spiritual message.
By participating in this service, the soul prepares for the final weeks of the fast, strengthening itself in faith, prayer, and the hope of salvation.” – Father Marius
The Akathist of the Annunciation – Honor and Gratitude to the Mother of God
“On Friday evening, we invite you to the Akathist of the Annunciation, a special service dedicated to the Mother of God. This service is based on the Akathist Hymn of the Annunciation, a hymn of praise and thanksgiving, written in the 6th century and attributed either to Patriarch Sergius of Constantinople or to Saint Romanos the Melodist.
The tradition of this service dates back to times of hardship for Constantinople when the faithful fervently prayed to the Mother of God for protection and deliverance. Since then, this prayer has remained a symbol of trust and divine intercession, uniting the hearts of believers in honoring the One who received the message of humanity’s salvation and who continuously intercedes for us.” – Father Marius
We invite you to take part in these moments of grace and prayer, preparing together, through fasting and devotion, for the great joy of Christ’s Resurrection.
We warmly welcome you to our church!
